The Group is one of Marcia’s earliest work in abstract expressionism. It contains magical faces combined with vivid eclectic images. In this amalgam of one’s feelings, experiences and relationships, Marcia creates an unconventional visual experience. Portentous and mysterious, The Group is a titillating example of this art form tailored to the aesthete.

We and the Tree, a later work, depicts the relationship and connectivity of females positioning and blending themselves into a botanical dream world. With their vacant, fixed stares you may surmise they are stoically waiting on someone or something. But their eyes are wide open taking in the object of their fascination. Surrounded by a magical tree acting as both a physical and nurturing support system. So, what is the relationship between the two figures? If mother and daughter, which is which? Each viewer will decide for themselves.

Many have commented that Heart and Soul is a self-portrait. See Marcia’s picture in the Gallery and decide for yourself. Are the eyes truly the windows to the soul? If so, can you read her thoughts or, maybe she can read yours. This silent lady is wise beyond her years; cerebral and intuitive.

Amazing Gaze represents the formation of a group of various types, united but with differing views and reactions to their surroundings. Reactions vary from skepticism to provocative and from amusement to curiosity. But is there a hierarchy here? Is the small face in the lower middle of the piece a new-born, a juvenile or possibly one who has been subjugated by the mature, larger members?

In Sea of Love an island girl emerges into the world accompanied by exotic floral blooms. Although a fresh entity she comes ashore with an intuitive smile and peers askance at her surroundings. The girl represents a cautious new beginning; emerging from her shell. The art also showcases a new direction for Marcia as her subjects become more worldly and sophisticated.

Looking Glass illustrates how the girl with the “Kaleidoscope Eyes” sees you. Self-assured but somewhat fragile. suspicious but approachable. Her brio is pleasant and pleasing though her demeanor could be interpreted as condescending and aloof.

Perception is the sophisticated lady. She exudes charm, style and self-assurance in any surrounding. She is not to be taken lightly. She lights up a room as she enters; commanding everyone’s attention. Whispers begin among the other guests. “Who is she?” “Where did she come from?” The speculation abounds!

Marcia chose Lady in Waiting to pair with Perception because of the contrast in the subjects’ appearance and demeanor. In both, Marcia demonstrates her talent for portraying inner feelings. Lady in Waiting is calm, kind, and nurturing exhibiting much more emotion than her counterpart on the other side of the pillow.

Could anyone resist this Friendly Persuasion? A unique representation of three concepts of interaction. Calm and calculating in their approach, vulnerable when needed, but always there is a strong will in reserve. The vertical object to the subject’s right could be interpreted as the staff of truth or law, or the hammer of justice (or at least her view of justice).

Les Girls represents the union of two conflicting minds. One, a mature thoughtfulness of purpose the other, youthful ambition fettered by the caution of the mentor. However, we can witness the epiphany of resolution through this meeting of the minds.
